Our Fried Eggs

The perfect fried egg is cooked on both sides with a velvety yolk. The trick is to flip the egg without breaking the yolk. This is our foolproof way of making the perfect fried egg, yolk intact.

Let’s face it, eggs can be intimidating. It wasn’t until I was in my late 20’s that I made any other kind of egg than scrambled with cheese.  After years of making said scrambled eggs for Mike, he finally admitted to me that he doesn’t like scrambled eggs. After rebelling against all eggs for a bit, out of principal, I set out to make the perfect fried egg.

Now, a fried egg is not as easy as it sounds. The balance between the perfect egg yolk and an over cooked yolk is just seconds but make a huge difference when it comes to your eggs.

Ingredients, Substitutions, and Additions

Non Stick Cooking Spray – I have found spraying my pan is the easiest way to fry the egg without the egg sticking to the pan and causing the yolk to break. However, I’ve heard the official way of frying an egg is to use bacon/sausage grease in the bottom of the pan and spooning the grease on top of the egg to cook the top.

Serving Suggestions – Our fried egg goes perfectly over the top of our Everything Bagel Avocado Toast or alongside some savory breakfast potatoes.

Pan Choice – I have found the type of pan I use can really effect the outcome of my eggs. When first practicing, I would recommend a small teflon or cast iron pan.

# of Eggs – If you’ve never fried an egg before, start small. Get comfortable frying one egg first before trying to cook them for the whole family all at once.

Fried Eggs

Ingredients

  • 1 Large Egg
  • Non-Stick Cooking Spray
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Dash of Pepper

Directions

Heat a small pan to medium/low. Evenly coat the pan with non-stick cooking spray. Crack an egg into the pan, careful to keep the yolk intact. Season with salt and pepper and cover with a lid. Allow the egg to cook 2-3 minutes.

The egg is ready to be flipped once the edges of the egg start to pull away from the pan and the whites of the egg appear solid. Flip the egg and cook for about 30 seconds. This is just enough time to fry this side of the egg, without cooking the yolk too much.

If, before you flip the egg, the top of the yolk starts to take on a creamy color, the yolk has already started to cook. If this happens, immediately flip the egg, and only cook for about 20 seconds.

Serve with your favorite breakfast sides and enjoy!
