Our Perfect Turkey Meatballs

One of my families favorite things to have for a hearty lunch or dinner are these Perfect Turkey Meatballs. When making these meatballs we had three things in mind. One, we wanted something that would fit perfect on our meatball subs. Two, I wanted them made of ground turkey. Third, we wanted to make sure they were made with things we had on hand regularly. No special trips to the grocery store for these meatballs. So Mike and I set out to make these Perfect Turkey Meatballs.

Ingredients, Substitutions, and Additions

Turkey – My personal preference when cooking with ground meat is turkey. I’m not a huge beef eater and the flavor of pork or sausage is too strong for me. So we went with ground turkey on these meatballs.

Saltine Crackers – Rather than breadcrumbs, we choose to make our meatballs with saltine crackers. They do the exact same thing as breadcrumbs and we don’t have to store extra ingredients in our pantry.

Parmesan Cheese – Parmesan cheese is an essential ingredient in meatballs. Without, you will have a very dense ball of meat. Trust me, we have forgotten the cheese before and it’s just not the same.

Seasoning – Keeping with some traditional seasonings that we always have on hand, we are going with oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

Broth – I like to cook these meatballs in some chicken broth or water. This allows us to use them in other ways such as with BBQ sauce for potlucks.

Garlic Lemon Green Beans – These Garlic Lemon Green Beans are a refreshing side for dinner tonight. Just a little garlic, lemon and a sprinkle of parm for perfection.

Parmesan Broccoli and Asparagus – Looking for some veggies to go along with dinner? Parmesan Broccoli and Asparagus is a yummy side to help get your daily dose of veggies in.

Combine ingredients in a large bowl: In a large mixing bowl combine ground turkey, saltine crackers, onion, egg, parmesan cheese, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper. To ensure all ingredients are well incorporated its best to combine with gloved or clean hands.

Cook meatballs over the stove in a large pan until cooked through: Heat a large pan on medium. Add meatballs into pan and pour just enough chicken broth to cover the bottom of the pan. Cover pan and allow to cook for 10-15 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
