About Our 6 Favorite Holiday Cookies

My momma and I have a tradition. Each year we get together before the holidays and we bake for a whole weekend. We bake cookies, candies, rum balls, and more. We would save some for ourselves, but mostly we would give them away to friends, family and coworkers. My favorite part is the cookies. This year we have come up with some new ones but kept our favorites in the mix. Here are our 6 Favorite Holiday Cookies.

Pumpkin Snickerdoodles

Pumpkin Snickerdoodles

Mike’s favorite type of cookie is a snickerdoodle. For the holidays I wanted to give them a twist and add a little bit of pumpkin flavor to them. After testing several batches of cookies that were tasty but not the right texture, I finally figured out the key was the butter. Because I was adding pumpkin, I needed to cut the amount of butter in half. Not doing so resulted in cookies that were more like bite sized cakes. Now we have the right butter to pumpkin ratio and an awesome Pumpkin Snickerdoodle!

Black Forest Cookies

Black Forest Cookies

Black Forest Cookies are one of my favorite cookies to have for the holidays. My grandmother would make them each year and when she asked me what I wanted for my birthday I would tell her to make me my own Black Forest Cookies. I love the combination of the chocolate cookie paired with a cherry frosting. I just can’t get enough of them.

Now, my grandma was old school, so she made her cookies from scratch. Since, I’ve been making them the past couple years, I just don’t have time for that. Back to my trusty cake mix cookies. I’m going to be using a chocolate cake mix for the base of this cookie and I will top it off with some homemade cherry frosting. Just as good as grandmas with have the effort.

Double Chocolate Candy Cane Cookies

Double Chocolate Candy Cane Cookies

I have been waiting for the Hershey Candy Cane Kisses to come back for months and driving my family nuts because I had an idea for a holiday cookie I just couldn’t get out of my head. I wanted to make a chocolate cookie with candy cane Kisses. Originally, I wanted to melt the Kisses and dip one side of the cookie in it…but what if the melted kisses turn the white chocolate pink? My back up plan is to chop the kisses up and sprinkle them on top of the cookies before they go into the oven. Because I can be extra sometimes, I did them both. I will let you decide which one you like better.

Red Velvet Holiday Cookies

Red Velvet Holiday Cookies

If you are like my mom and I you love to bake come holiday season. Well it’s that time of year again and we are looking for some cookies that are easier to make this year. Lately I’ve really been on this baking cookies from a boxed cake mix trend. I find it’s the fastest way to make cookies and they turn out great!

This time we went with a red velvet cake mix. Paired with white chocolate drizzled on top these are perfect for the holiday season. Serve these Red Velvet Holiday Cookies on your holiday dessert table, box them up and give them as gifts, or just make them for yourself to enjoy.

Chewy Cocoa Cookies

Chewy Cocoa Cookies

I don’t know about you but in the cold months, one of my favorite drinks to keep me warm is a cup of hot cocoa. I go through these baking spurts where I just get the itch to bake something and I really wanted to make a chocolate cookie. With no cocoa powder on hand, I had to get creative and I thought why not turn my favorite drink into a cookie. And thus began my journey to create the perfect Chewy Cocoa Cookies.

Gingersnap Cookies

Gingersnap Cookies

I LOVE Gingersnap Cookies! But they are SO expensive, and I can rarely justify the expense. So, what does a girl do when she has a craving for this tasty treat? We make our own. These cookies are so easy, I was a bit disappointed in myself for not making them sooner.

Typically, I have just about everything in my cupboard to make these…with the exception of the Dark Molasses, but that’s an easy fix. After that, it’s just a matter of mixing all the ingredients together, rolling the dough in some sugar, and baking them. All that’s left then, is to hide them from your family and try not to eat all the cookies in one sitting.
