Our Kick'n Cranberry Sauce
Growing up I was a fan of canned Cranberry Sauce. If it wasn’t out of a can, I wasn’t going to eat it. There is just something about the tartness and the texture from a can that speaks to you as a kid. That being said, now that I’m all grown up and contributing to the Holiday Feast, I feel like it would be cheating if I only served Cranberry Sauce from a can. Now, to bring back a bit of that childhood feeling and transform it into a homemade Kick’n Cranberry Sauce.
I love Cranberry Juice and just from drinking the Juice Cranberries are very tart. Very tart. So we will need something to cut some of the tartness with sugar. We also need to give our Kick’n Cranberry Sauce something to write home about so lets enhance our Cranberries and Sugar with some Orange Zest, Orange Juice, and because we are going to be naughty we are going to throw in some Orange Liquor. The result is a perfectly tart Cranberry Sauce with a hint of orange running through it. Something my childhood self just might have tried.
Ingredients, Substitutions, and Additions
Cranberries – We used frozen Cranberries in this recipe, however, you could easily substitute for a fresh bag. Either way you go, be sure to fish out the ones that don’t look very tasty.
Sugar – There are lots of ways to sweeten up our Cranberries. I opted for the easiest one for us and just added enough sugar to take the edge off. But if you are not into adding sugar to your dish try a bit of honey.
Oranges – To add a bit more flavor to our Cranberries we went with some Orange Zest, Orange Juice, and some Orange Liquor. It all comes together to flavor the Cranberries without being too much.
Uses for Kick'n Cranberry Sauce
Kick’n Cranberry Sauce isn’t just something you serve alongside your Holiday Feast. There are so many other uses for it. For example:
Holiday Turkey Sandwiches – As a child I couldn’t be normal and just eat my Holiday meal. Nope, I took everything and made it into a sandwich. Come to think of it, things haven’t really changed now that I’m older. Back to the sandwich…adding Cranberry Sauce to the sandwich is a tasty treat and transforms your otherwise ordinary turkey sandwich into a Holiday Turkey Sandwich.
Easy Cranberry Vanilla Pies – This Easy Cranberry Vanilla Pie is perfect for any left over Cranberry Sauce. With a Graham Cracker Crust, Vanilla Pudding filling, and a dollop of Cranberry Sauce, you can make a tasty dessert and make sure your leftovers don’t go to waste.
