Baked Yams with Pecan

Our Baked Yams with Pecans

Every year for Thanksgiving my family would make a version of candied yams that came out of a can, and I was not the biggest fan. The first Thanksgiving I spent with Minda’s family, while we were dating, I found out that they had candied yams and I thought, “Oh well.” I then discovered they used fresh sweet potatoes and had a brown sugar and pecan topping. This became my favorite side dish alongside our Thanksgiving Turkey. I thought, how about we just add all the toppings we love on to a baked yam. Minda and our son agreed, and that is how we created our Baked Yams with Pecans.

Ingredients, Substitutions, and Additions

Yams – We might say Yams here, but we also use sweet potatoes. If we do use Yams, we like to use a sweet yam. We pick what looks the best at the grocery store. When baking the yams, we like to wrap in two layers of aluminum foil to prevent any messes from happening.

Seasonings – Sometimes we like to add a little bit of nutmeg. It helps complement the sweetness from the Yam. Cinnamon is also perfect for your baked Yam.

Toppings – For this round we put butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, and pecans on top of these amazing Baked Yams with Pecans. We also used marshmallow fluff. It tastes amazing. If you put your marshmallow fluff covered Yam back in the oven it creates an amazingly sweet crunchy coating. The awesome thing about making a Baked Yam is that you can customize it.
