Our Fall off the Bone Crock-Pot Ribs

You know summer is nearing when you wear shorts instead of pants when you head outside. This also means barbeque time is among us. Mike has always been a fan of pork ribs. When we first moved in with each other, the apartment we lived in had a policy of no grills or barbeque pits.

That’s when he turned to the Crock-Pot.  Using a Crock-Pot gave us the opportunity to have amazing fall off the bone ribs any time. The ability to throw some ribs in the slow cooker and have them ready with little effort makes our Fall off the Bone Crock-Pot Ribs perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients, Substitutions, and Additions

Baby Back Ribs – when cooking ribs, I prefer baby back ribs to spareribs. Spareribs taste amazing but they do take a little longer to prep. St. Louis style ribs a good compromise because they are spareribs, but the butcher has trimmed them giving them a uniform shape. Baby Back Ribs also have more meat on them than spareribs.

Preparing the Ribs – 

Meat Prep – Removing the membrane on the back of your ribs might be a hassle but is an important step that helps your dry seasoning enhance the flavor of your meat.

Bake – Although the majority of the cooking process is done in the Crock-Pot, we do bake the ribs in the oven for a quick 30 minutes before transferring them to the Crock-Pot. This helps seal in the flavor and give the ribs a little bit of crust around the outside.

Dry Seasonings – Or rubs are an amazing way to make your ribs pop with flavor. I mix my own seasonings to make different types of rubs. Being able to regulate heat and salt is the main reason I mix my own but your favorite store-bought brand works the same.

Barbeque Sauce – Barbeque sauce is always on hand in our kitchen. In the fridge right now, we have 4 different types. Our go to for our Crock-Pot Ribs is Sweet Baby Rays. They offer several different barbeque variations that are all amazing on our Ribs. Our favorites are Sweet Vidalia Onion, Sweet ‘n Spicy, and the Original Barbecue sauce.

Fall off the Bone Crock-Pot Ribs Ingredients

  • 1 rack Pork Baby Back Ribs
  • 1 bottle of your favorite Barbeque Sauce
  • ½ cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Nonstick Cooking Spray
  • 2 tbs Onion Powder
  • 2 tbs Garlic Powder
  • 1 tbs Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tbs Ground Mustard
  • 1 tbs Oregano
  • 1 tsp Pepper

Cooking Fall of the Bone Crock-Pot Ribs

Low Temperature – With our busy schedules we love any type of meal that allows us to set it and forget it. Typically, we cook our Pork Ribs on low temperature. We let it cook for 7-9 hrs while we get on with our day.

High Temperature – If you don’t have much time but still want Ribs. Set your Crock-Pot temperature to high and cook 4-5 hours flipping ribs halfway through cooking.

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Mix dry seasonings in a small bowl and set aside. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray.

Remove Pork Baby Back Ribs from packaging and pat dry with paper towels. Using a butter knife and paper towel, remove the membrane on the back side of the ribs:

Take the butter knife and gently run it along one of the bones to lift the membrane then using the paper towel grab the membrane and lightly pull to remove.

Cut ribs into 5 equal parts. Heavily coat each piece with dry seasoning mixture and place on lined baking sheet. Place into oven for 30 minutes flipping at the 15-minute mark.

Spray the interior of the Crock-Pot with nonstick cooking and set to low. Evenly place the ribs in the Crock-Pot standing vertically. In a small bowl mix the barbeque sauce and apple cider vinegar and completely coat the ribs.

Cook for 7 to 9 hours on low. Halfway through the cooking process flip the ribs. Ribs are perfectly cooked when you can slide a bone out with ease. Serve with favorite side and enjoy.
