Homemade Pico de Gallo

Our Homemade Pico de Gallo

Nothing beats a good afternoon snack break. I love tomatoes and was craving them. Minda was craving tortilla chips. I thought why not some fresh Pico de Gallo. We always have tortilla chips and everything for Pico de Gallo on hand.

We love the combination of fresh tomatoes, onion, garlic, cilantro, and lime juice. In just a few steps we had an amazing snack that will always hit the spot.

Ingredients, Substitutions, and Additions

Tomatoes – Roma’s are the most common tomato when making Pico de Gallo but the grocery store doesn’t always have them. Use any medium sized tomato but make sure to deseed them to prevent bitterness.

Hint: The easiest way we have found to get the perfect cut of tomato for our Pico de Gallo is to cut slices around the outside of the tomato. This will leave you with the seedy center that you can discard. Then, all you need to do is cut up the remaining slices into 1/4 inch pieces.

Cheese – I know it seems crazy but try and add some Queso Fresco it gives the Pico de Gallo a creamy finish.

Crumbling Queso: Queso is a very soft creamy cheese. Normally you would crumble the queso into tiny pieces, but we found using a fine cheese grater does the trick in a fraction of the time.

Veggies – You can use white onion in place of red onion. If you want a spicy Pico de Gallo add some jalapeno, serrano, or habaneros.

Suggestion – When it comes to lime, garlic, and salt you can increase or decrease amount used to your personal preference.
