Our Black Forest Cookies

Black Forest Cookies are one of my favorite cookies to have for the holidays. My grandmother would make them each year and when she asked me what I wanted for my birthday I would tell her to make me my own Black Forest Cookies. I love the combination of the chocolate cookie paired with a cherry frosting. I just can’t get enough of them.

Now, my grandma was old school, so she made her cookies from scratch. Since, I’ve been making them the past couple years, I just don’t have time for that. Back to my trusty cake mix cookies. I’m going to be using a chocolate cake mix for the base of this cookie and I will top it off with some homemade cherry frosting. Just as good as grandmas with have the effort.

Ingredients, Substitutions, and Additions

Cake Mix – You can use any cake mix you want and turn it into cookies. For these ones, we just want to make sure we have a chocolate cake mix. I will be using my favorite, Triple Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix.

Confectioner’s Sugar – We will need one and a half cups of confectioner’s sugar to make our frosting base.

Butter – To transform our cake mix into a cookie dough we are going to add some melted butter. You will also need some cold butter for the frosting.

Maraschino Cherries – We will use the juice as well as some of the cherries to flavor the frosting.

Eggs – Gotta have eggs for our cookie dough.

Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips – We can’t have a chocolate cookie without adding chocolate chips to it.
